Is Walmart Coming To Wilkins Township?

WILKINS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- There's a lot of shopping in the Monroeville area, but something you won't find is a Walmart, but that could be changing.

Walmart may be targeting a property on Route 22 at Penn Center East in Wilkins Township.

"I used to work at Sears for years," Angel Battiste said. "It's kind of a nostalgic place for me to come back to. I don't know. Things move on."

The owner of the property is reportedly in talks with Walmart. The manager of the complex will only say they're seeing a lot of new development there.

"We're excited about the direction we've seen the economy go," Barry Layton, general manager of Penn Center East, said. "Certainly, the activity we've started to see is an indication that things are improving."

There's already a new sushi place there, and a new bar and restaurant is under construction.

Some people who spoke to KDKA-TV weren't thrilled with the idea of the retailer potentially moving in.

"They have these mega stores, they're always understaffed," Rhonda Neil said. "It's never a pleasant experience when you go in the store and if anybody has been at the one on Route 30, it's pretty self-explanatory."
