4-1-Zoo: Pitt Men's Basketball Earns Academic Honor

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- The Pitt men's basketball program ranks among the top 10 percent in the NCAA in academic progress rate.

That's increasingly impressive when you take into account there's 336 division-I college basketball programs.

Pitt was recognized with a public recognition Thursday. The honor is based on academic progress, graduation rates and retention rates over the last four academic school years.

"Graduating student-athletes will always be the No. 1 priority for our program," Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said in a statement. "Once again, this is a tremendous honor for our university and a great reward for all of the hard work and dedication that our players have put into their studies."

Pitt and Notre Dame were the only two Big East programs recognized with this honor.
