PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man is in police custody following a chase and crash involving a motorcycle along the Parkway West this morning.

According to state police, Robinson Township officers were attempting to stop 25-year-old Joshua Smitsky, of Clinton, for a traffic violation.

“Officers were trying to initiate a traffic stop on the motorcycle didn’t have a registration plate on it,” Robinson Township Police Officer Noel Politsky said. “Upon trying to pull it over, the motorcycle took off on Campbell’s Run Road.”

Police say Smitsky was weaving in and out of traffic, going 100 mph at times. He ended up crashing the motorcycle at the McClaren Road Exit.

After the crash, Smitsky ran into a wooded area. His license was already suspended for driving under the influence.

Police in Robinson Township found Smitsky and took him into custody. A police dog was used to track him down.

He is facing charges, including fleeing and alluding, reckless endangerment and several other traffic violations. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
