With a heftier price tag than most apps at $29.99, GPS enabled “Golfshot” tracks more than 35,000 courses worldwide, comes with a handicap calculator and lets dad keep tabs on his performance.

If grilling is more his game, Weber’s “On The Grill” app for iPhone, iPad and Android dubs itself as a “mobile grilling companion.”

Dad’s smartphone gets access to more than 300 recipes, creates grocery lists for those recipes and has a grill guide and timer to make sure any item turns out just right.
