BRADDOCK (KDKA) — Authorities are investigating the cause of an overnight fire that damaged two homes in Braddock.

The Braddock Volunteer Fire Department chief says the two-alarm fire is believed to have started in between the two homes on Wood Street around 4 a.m.

According to authorities, both homes were vacant and all utilities had been turned off.

The residences had also been heavily boarded up.

KDKA-TV’s Heather Abraham reports from the scene that firefighters were able to get one of their trucks through an alleyway and extend a ladder up to the roof at the back of one of the homes, which helped them to bring the fire under control.

The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

“It appears that the fire started between both houses. We have the fire marshal’s office on the way out to investigate the fire,” said Chief Thomas Petrovic, of the Braddock VFD. “The power was off to both, so at this time, I’d say we probably warrant it to be suspicious.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
