District Attorney Visits Scene Of Deadly East Liberty Standoff
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- District Attorney Stephen Zappala was in East Liberty this afternoon at the scene of a deadly standoff where a 19-year-old was fatally wounded last week.
Allegheny County's top prosecutor joined Zappala and homicide investigators as they reviewed the site along North Euclid Avenue where it happened.
Police and witnesses say Odell Brown was pacing outside his home in East Liberty on June 13 with a supposed gun in his hand. He was reportedly upset about a breakup and telling people he had no reason to live.
When approached by a sheriff's deputy, police say Brown drew the pellet gun.
"If you believe he had a real gun, these people behind you in these homes, they were at risk," said Zappala. "And if you shoot somebody and you don't take them out, he could return fire and some innocent person gets hurt."
Zappala continues to investigating the shooting. He says he hasn't reached any conclusions yet.
Investigators at the scene today were looking over the area, including where Brown and the sheriff's deputy were standing and what sight lines were like.
Meanwhile, the NAACP is calling for a thorough investigation of the incident.
