Small Plane Crashes Near Sandy Springs Park In W. Va.

CHEAT LAKE, W. Va. (KDKA/AP) -- One person is dead following a small plane crash in West Virginia this morning.

According to the Associated Press, authorities say the Hawker Beechcraft BE90 struck a radio tower in Coopers Rock State Forest.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. just miles east of Morgantown.

Monongalia County Sheriff's Office officials said some of the wreckage was found in nearby Preston County.

Monongalia County Sheriff Al Kisner confirmed the fatality, the Associated Press reports. He couldn't say whether anyone else was on board.

There's no yet on the identity of the victim.

The AP also reports that the radio tower that was hit belonged to West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
