Apollo Police Chief Suspended, Under Investigation

APOLLO (KDKA) -- A local police chief has been suspended from his job after some serious accusations were made against him.

Paul Breznican has been the police chief in Apollo for more than a dozen years. Recently, he was suspended, but borough officials won't say why.

Even his attorney claims he has no answers.

Greg Swank, Breznican's attorney, said: "He was suspended with pay earlier this month."

KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters: "Do you know why?"

Swank: "I do not. We were not informed as to why he was suspended."

The plot thickens. The former borough manager of Apollo had plenty to say but she did not what her identity shown on camera.

"In my capacity as the former borough manager of Apollo, an inventory was done in February," she said. "An inventory was done to compare the items that were purchased using Department of Justice grant funds in previous years. We did a comparison of the weapons and equipment that was purchased, and what was in the inventory, and we came up with that there were some items that were missing, specifically a gun.

"The gun was found," she added. "It was by the person it was sold to."

KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters: "And this person can say who sold the gun to him."

Former Apollo Borough Manager: "He told the state police who sold the gun to him, yes."

KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters: "And this person told the state police who sold it. Did he say who sold it?"

Former Apollo Borough Manager: "Yes, he did."

KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters: "Can you tell me who allegedly sold him the gun? … So, the state police have this already?"

Former Apollo Borough Manager: "I can tell you that the Apollo Borough police chief is… being investigated."

She says more guns as well as ammunition were stolen and sold. Some of the guns had been confiscated by Apollo police and they were locked in a safe.

"Other than what I've heard through gossip and on the street, I know nothing about that, no," said Swank.

An Apollo Borough Council meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.
