North Side Standoff Ends Peacefully

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) – A Tuesday night standoff on the North Side ended peacefully thanks in large part to the suspect's mother.

According to police, a man was shooting a gun in his yard on Brandon Road around 10 p.m.

When officers arrived, Marc Vrane barricaded himself in the home and was upset that neighbors had called the police on him.

He threatened to harm officers if they entered the home. As a result, police brought his mother in to help defuse the situation.

"We had his mother tape a message that was scripted out for us and then we played that message over our LRAD system and immediately upon the completion of that message, he called us and said he was willing to come out and surrender himself," Pittsburgh Police Cmdr. Rashall Brackney said.

The weapon Vrane was shooting was a pellet gun and there are no injuries.

Vrane is a retired firefighter and was taken to Western Psych for an evaluation.
