Pitt Athletic Director Discusses New NCAA Football Playoff Format

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- University of Pittsburgh Athletic Director Steve Pederson joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN in Pittsburgh to talk about the new NCAA football playoff format and how it might affect the Pitt program.

Pederson is excited about the new format and said the committee has done a really nice job putting this together. It's still unknown though who will make up the selection committee for the four team playoff.

We also got into the discussion of what this system means for Pitt and the ACC, and Pederson believes that if you win one of the five power conferences, it will be hard not to put you into that final four, but obviously one team will be left out each year.

There is talk that the college football landscape could eventually shift to 4 power conferences; and when asked about that possibility, Pederson said he sees no chance that happens and the ACC is picked apart because the conference controls the entire eastern seaboard.

We wrapped things up with Pederson discussing Pitt's recruiting and some of the struggles they have had recently in getting commitments from the top Western Pennsylvania recruits.
