Outdoor Workers Dealing With High Heat & Humidity

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The best advice during a heat wave is to stay out of the sun and in the air conditioning.

However, for some people that simply isn't an option especially, with the Fourth of July holiday looming.

Watching a hazy orange sunrise over the Golden Triangle made for a beautiful way to start the day, but the temperature quickly rose into uncomfortable territory.

"It's terrible, unbearable," Marco Corradi said.

Corradi is one of the many employees tasked with setting up the pyrotechnic display for the Fourth of July.

It's a tough job in any conditions and oppressive in this heat.

"It's not easy. It's extremely hot, like you said you are on the river out there all day in the middle of the heat, but you know, plenty of water, make sure everybody gets fluids and some rest every once in a while," Derek Weber said.

In the multitude of hot jobs in Pittsburgh Bataglia Auto Salvage in the West End may be one of the hottest places around.

Ross Guidotti: How hot is it get in that cab?

John Zeitlman: Got to be about 100 [degrees]

"Oh, it's hot. We have rags we set on the fenders so we can lean on just to get a part off because when it's hot it'll burn you," Terry Bibey said.

So take it easy and stay cool drink water. If that fails, there's always Corradi idea:

"Jump in the river."
