'Walk On Wednesday': Recipe For Success
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the Fan Morning Show on Independence Day for his weekly visit.
He chats with guest host Troy Clardy about the team's walk-off win from Tuesday night, and says that the Pirates are truly starting to look like a winning team, doing things that winning teams do.
He says that looking back at teams that have special seasons makes you realize the value of impact players, and he has bought into Andrew McCutchen as one of those guys. He notes that early in the season, "everyone was pitching well- but on the offense, it was Andrew McCutchen... he most definitely would have my vote for MVP."
He breaks down the struggles James McDonald has had at times, saying that the young pitcher's biggest hurdle seems to be that he isn't pounding the strike zone and going right after hitters, but he admits that he's nitpicking.
Finally, he cites a major concern for this team being the pitching beginning to break down as heat and arm fatigue take their toll, which seemed to happen last season.
