Parents Charged After Toddler Nearly Drowns In New Castle

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- Two parents are facing charges after their 1-year-old daughter nearly drowned on the Fourth of July.

It happened at 102 South Liberty Street in New Castle, Lawrence County just before 6:30 p.m.

Karissa Domenick was on a raft in a pool when it flipped over. Police say the pool was about four-feet deep and 20-feet wide.

New Castle Police say the girl's father, Jamie Domenick, initially said that he was in the pool with 1-year-old Karissa and his 2-year-old child when he got out of the pool to take the 2-year-old to the porch where his wife, Amanda Domenick, was located.

Domenick said when he turned around, the raft was overturned in the water and he pulled out Karissa. He said she was blue and her eyes were rolled up in her head, according to police.

When police arrived, she was breathing and was taken by ambulance to Jameson Hospital.

New Castle Police say the father's story changed at the hospital, telling authorities that his wife was swimming with the children.

Both parents are facing charges of endangering the welfare of children.
