Sweltering Heat Holds Grip Over Pittsburgh Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- In sickness, in health and in scorching temperatures, a bride and groom said their vows on the 50-yard line of Robert Morris University's Joe Walton Stadium.

"My mom and I had a joke that we were praying for no rain, but we forgot to pray for not 100 degree record-breaking heat," Kirsten Andrade said.

At a different kind of event, Bucco fans tried not to melt under the broiling rays of the sun and asking: Are we still in Pittsburgh?

"We live in another city or somewhere. I don't know right now, maybe Florida," Jerry Underwood said.

Die-hard fans barely noticed the blistering conditions.

"The weather doesn't bother me as long as the Pirates are playing – the heat's right there on the diamond," Jim Herrick, of Aliquippa, said.

EMS crews say not everyone's immune though. Over a dozen people at PNC Park had to be treated for heat-related illness – something most were working to avoid.

"Been drinking lots of water and going in the gift shop and staying cool and buying some stuff," Joe Chorpenning, visiting from Indianapolis, said.
