CRESCENT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — Grace Bear, of Crescent Township, celebrates her eighth birthday by giving a $250.00 check to Children’s Hospital’s pediatric cancer unit.

She raised the money by selling tutus she made herself – 50 of them.

“It wasn’t an initiative created by me or my wife,” says her father, Bo Bear. “Grace had the complete idea of what she wanted to do with the tutus, why she wanted to make the tutus and the impact that she wanted from the making of the tutus.

“She told us form the beginning that she wanted to make a difference and that caught us kind of off guard. You don’t hear that from a 7-year-old.”

Grace learned the art of tutu-making on YouTube.

“Well, I just set a goal,” she explains, “and people just started asking, once I set it out. And people are just going crazy for these tutu things.”

The colorful costumes catch the eye of a four-year-old patient at Children’s. Grace gives her a choice of three, and she picks a tutu in red, white and blue.

For one little girl, a day in the hospital just got a little brighter.
