Elderly Woman Suffers Injuries, Son Facing Charges

UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A Union Township man is facing a list of charges in connection with injuries his elderly mother suffered in an alleged physical altercation.

The Southwest Regional Police Department says 63-year-old Anthony Nasal was arrested and arraigned on charges of simple assault, neglect of a care-dependent person and the violation of a protection from abuse order.

The alleged incident happened earlier this month at a home in the 100-block of Nasal Lane.

"The incident occurred three days prior thereto and he did not call an ambulance or seek any medical attention," Southwest Regional Police Chief John Hartman said.

According to investigators, 86-year-old Alice Nasal suffered head and facial injuries during a physical altercation allegedly with her son.

Southwest Regional police say Anthony Nasal, who is his mother's primary caregiver, is also accused of not seeking medical treatment for her injuries.

Police say her injuries were eventually discovered by Protective Services and that's when authorities were called to the scene.

Police also found five knives and a .22 caliber altered to resemble an assault rifle.

Nasal's aunt filed a Protection From Abuse Order against him and he is not allowed to have weapons.

Police say Nasal recently pointed the gun at someone who intruded on his property and the weapon was loaded.

Nasal remains in jail in the Washington County Prison on $10,000 bond.
