On-Duty Officer Hit By Car In Trafford

TRAFFORD (KDKA) - A Trafford Police officer is in the hospital after he was hit by a car while on duty Tuesday morning.

Trafford Police said Officer Richard Adams was directing traffic at the intersection of Route 130 and Forbes Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle.

The captain at the police station got a call from Officer Adams just before 8 a.m.

Officer Adams reported he had been hit and was complaining of neck and leg pain. He was rushed to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

However, word of the crash spread fast.

"I come through here about 6:30. I [saw] him, wave to him every morning. He's a real nice guy. Hard worker and it's just a shame that something like this had to happen to him," Dave Bell said.

According to police, because of bridge construction, there's been an ongoing detour and officers are usually stationed there around 6:30 a.m. to help with the flow of traffic.

Officer Adams is routinely there in the morning and has been with the Trafford Police Department part-time for about a year-and-a-half.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing and Officer' Adams condition is currently unknown.
