'Walk On Wednesday': Bob Walk Loves Wandy Rodriguez

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the guys on The Fan Morning Show today for his weekly spot "Walk on Wednesday," and he was ecstatic about the Pirates' acquisition of starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez.

"I'm a big Wandy Rodriguez fan," he said. "I think he's one of the more under-appreciated guys from around the league."

He said the move will provide valuable depth, which he sees as vital for a contending club like the Bucs.

"I know we have some guys at the Triple A level that are pitching pretty well, but this is no time for an experiment," Walk said.

With six starting pitchers in the mix now, there's a general consensus that James McDonald, A.J. Burnett, and Rodriguez are locked into their rotation spots moving forward. But Bob felt Jeff Karstens shouldn't be taken out, either.

"It can't be McDonald or A.J.- they've been pitching totally fantastic. Karstens has been throwing the ball great, I don't know how you could take him out of the rotation right now. So I guess you're looking at [Kevin Correia or Erik Bedard]," Walk said.

Bob says the trade should be big on a number of fronts, as it improves the team, adds experience and skill to the pitching staff, and gives Rodriguez a chance to play for a contender.

"I can't see this as anything but a giant positive for this club," Walk said.
