'How To Train A Dragon' Coming To CONSOL Energy Center

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The animated feature film, "How to Train Your Dragon," soared in the box office.

Now, "live" dragons are appearing in arena shows all over the country. The fire-breathing reptiles are coming to CONSOL Energy Center August 23.

Parents and kids at CONSOL were treated to a preview Thursday afternoon.

A "dragon" named Nadder, 14-feet long, delighted the audience with dragon roars and puffs of smoke. Dragon trainer "Sig" the Viking says it's important to look the scaly student in the eye.

"You have to have a fierce Viking stare," he says solemnly. "And what I mean by that is, you have to be more fierce than the dragon itself."

He has "trained" some very big dragons for the upcoming show.

"Twenty-three dragons actually are coming here. In fact, the biggest one's over 100 feet long, over 20-feet high," he said. "And one of the stars, Toothless, is coming. And you're actually going to see Toothless fly throughout the arena. In fact, throughout the entire show, Toothless will fly over a mile."

"How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular" will have seven shows at CONSOL Energy Center, from August 23 to 26.
