Pirates Trade Gorkys Hernandez, Casey McGehee

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pirates kept busy after acquiring Travis Snider.

With that deal and two others made today, the Pirates had to make a few roster moves.

One of them was the release of utility man Drew Sutton and the recall of pitcher Daniel McCutchen from AAA Indianapolis.

After the Snider trade, the Pirates also acquired a National League All-Star from last year – first baseman Gaby Sanchez from the Marlins.

And they did not give up all that much in outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and a draft pick.

Sanchez hit 19 homeruns last year and made the All-Star team.

This year, he was a big disappointment, hitting just .202 with three homeruns in 200-plus at bats.

But, he's just 28 and has had success in the majors and the Pirates are hoping they can get him back to what he was last year.

And with Sanchez now here, it meant, another deal as the Pirates traded third baseman Casey McGehee to the New York Yankees.

In return they get reliever Chad Qualls who has been not very good with five blown saves.

The Phillies first got rid of him and now the Yankees.

Qualls is 33 with a 4.89 ERA.
