Charges Filed In Deadly Braddock Hills Shooting

BRADDOCK HILLS (KDKA) -- Allegheny County police have one suspect in custody and another is in the hospital following a deadly shooting Tuesday afternoon in Braddock Hills.

Brandon Johns, 18, was shot and killed just after 4 p.m. in the vestibule area of his grandmother's apartment at Brinton Manor.

Eugene McCarthy, 23, claims he is innocent. He was taken away in handcuffs and charged with homicide.

"I feel sorry for the victim," he said. "I had nothing to do with this. I feel so sorry for the victim and just wish I wasn't in the situation."

He told KDKA-TV he thinks he's being charged because he was at the scene of the shooting.

Johns was fatally wounded during a shootout, but not before he critically wounded one of the gunmen who were trying to rob him of some marijuana.

Police say the three suspects fled the scene in a silver Dodge Avenger, taking the injured suspect to McKeesport Hospital for treatment.

Once there, police say the driver took off and left the other two behind.

Authorities found the vehicle and driver around midnight in Clairton.

The suspect who was wounded remains hospitalized and was last listed in critical condition.
