Shooting Claims Another East Allegheny High School Student

DUQUESNE (KDKA) - Investigators are still trying to piece together why a young man from Duquesne was found shot to death in a local street over the weekend.

Charles Davis, 18, of North Versailles, was the second football player and recent graduate from East Allegheny High School to be shot in the past few months.

Allegheny County homicide detectives are hoping someone will come forward with information about Davis' murder.

His body was found in Duquesne early Sunday morning in front of an abandoned house on Mehaffey Street.

Police do not believe he was shot at the home. Rather, they believe he was shot at another location and his body was dropped off in front of the residence.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots early Sunday morning and police recovered a car and some shell casings not far away on Catherine Street.

So far, they are not saying if there is a connection.

Police said it is part of the ongoing violence involving young African-American males in a number of communities in Allegheny County.

"McKeesport, we've been to McKeesport and Wilkinsburg every once in a while, but Homestead, we've been there for the last week or so," Allegheny County Police Asst. Supt. James Morton said.

About a month and half ago, 18-year old Chauncey Williams of Duquesne was fatally wounded as he and some friends sat on the back porch of a McKeesport home.

Last April, another East Allegheny high school student, 18-year-old Shawn Januck, was shot and killed at a home in Wilmerding.

Then, last December, 18-year-old Drew Henderson-Bracey was killed in a shooting during a birthday party in Duquesne.

Williams, Chauncey and Henderson-Bracey all played on the East Allegheny Wildcats football team.

The school district released a statement Monday afternoon regarding Davis' death:

On Sunday, August 12, 2012, East Allegheny lost another one of its students to a senseless act of violence. Charles Davis, a recent graduate, was shot and killed in Duquesne. Charles was a likeable person with a good heart and a quick wit. He was a member of the 2011 football squad where he had an excellent senior season. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to his friends and family.

The East Allegheny School District is truly saddened by the loss of another young life that has afflicted our society recently. Our hope is that through more parental intervention and a continued strong educational system, better choices will be made to prevent these types of tragedies in the future.

Charles will truly be missed.
