Owner Of Stolen Jeep Used In Police Chase: 'I Feel Violated'

PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said Monday the chase of that stolen Jeep on the Parkway East in Churchill late Sunday only lasted about a minute.

Burton said his officers terminated the chase quickly because the driver of the Jeep Cherokee was speeding and driving erratically.

As it turned out, police said the Jeep was stolen by a 14-year-old boy. Burton said police had no record of the boy, and there was no indication that [Penn Hills] police had dealt with him in the past.

The owner of the Jeep, 20-year-old Melissa Leon of Plum, said she had parked her Jeep in a friend's driveway to run into his home of use the bathroom.

She said she left her keys in her purse on the front seat.

"I feel violated," she said. "My Jeep is like a pancake right now."

She said she graduated from college just last Friday and worked three, sometime four jobs, 100 hours a week to pay cash for the Jeep.
