3 Charged In McKnight Road Dragging Incident

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Three people are facing charges after a man was dragged by a vehicle on McKnight Road in Ross Township last month.

Investigators say the incident on July 18th began as a drug deal.

The man who was injured, 19-year-old Andrew Kaltenbaugh, of Bakerstown, had met the other two suspects – 18-year-old Brian Fish, of Glenshaw, and a 17-year-old to buy a half pound of marijuana for $2,000 in a Ross Park Mall parking lot.

"These people had known each other from a prior relationship," Ross Township Police Sgt. Benjamin Dripps said.

However, Ross Township police say after the transaction, Kaltenbaugh realized he was sold yard mulch instead of marijuana. He got into his car and followed Fish and the 17-year-old.

"Their intention from the outset was to rip him off," Dripps said. "They had stopped, they had picked up mulch along the roadway."

When he caught up with them, he got out of his car, approached the passenger side window of their vehicle and demanded his money back. However, the suspects kept driving.

"He was holding on for dear life and they continued to assault him as they rode," Dripps said.

After being dragged for a quarter of a mile, he fell off in front of Mattress World. His face was fractured and his pants were shred.

"I think from his injuries you could say they were life threatening," Dripps said.

Kaltenbaugh is facing a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

Fish has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. He turned himself in to authorities after they issued an arrest warrant.

The 17-year-old is facing the same charges and was taken to the Shuman Center.
