WEST VIEW (KDKA) —In casual brand name clothes, Kate Spiker was sporting cuffs and shackles heading into her preliminary hearing in Westview on retail theft charges.

Spiker, of Pittsburgh, is accused of stealing $4400 in designer handbags from the Nordstrom’s in the Ross Park Mall.

Surveillance cameras capture Spiker taking off while the bags thrown into a waiting vehicle, allegedly driven by her 14-year-old daughter.

After asking about her involvement, she agreed that it was a mistake. Police say it was not a mistake and she coerced her daughter into the alleged criminal conspiracy in fear that her mother would try and kill herself.

The two were eventually caught shortly after by Ross Township Police.

Spiker remains in the Allegheny County Jail, unable to post bond. She faces criminal conspiracy, theft and corrupting the morals of a minor. Spiker’s daughter is in the custody of her family. She will be charged as a juvenile.
