Pitt AD Steve Pederson: Chryst "Came In & Just Kept Pounding Away"

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Pitt football Fan Fest is taking place 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Heinz Field, which means the season is fast approaching.

With that in mind, Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson checked in with The Fan Morning Show today to talk about the job new head coach Paul Chryst has done and to discuss what fans should expect tonight and in the coming year.

He remarked that Chryst has really embraced Pittsburgh and taken pride in the city's sports traditions, and said it's unsurprising that the players have followed suit.

"Everybody rallying together is what makes Pittsburgh so great," he said.

He raved about the hard-nosed attitude Chryst's staff has brought to training camp.

"They're long, intense practices. It's good old, grind-it-out, tough football," Pederson said. "There hadn't been a long tradition of success at Wisconsin. These guys came in and just kept pounding away."

He also talked about weighing focus on this season against focus on Pitt's future in the ACC, and offered a little preview of what fans can expect during game days this season.

The interview can be heard here:

Pederson will be at Fan Fest tonight, as will 93-7 The Fan, which will broadcasting live from Heinz Field.
