Hurdle On Bedard: 'Inconsistency Wasn't Getting Us Where We Wanted To Go'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates Manager, Clint Hurdle joined the Fan Morning Show on s to talk to the guys. The conversation began with the overnight news that Pitcher, Erik Bedard has been released from the team.

Asked why the move was made, Clint told us, "At the end of the day, the inconsistency wasn't getting us where we wanted to go."

So, who will replace Bedard in the starting rotation?

Clint said that the team has made a decision, but they will still evaluate over the next few weeks based on what unfolds. The team will be calling someone up from the minor leagues, but they are not sure how Neil Walker's back issues will affect the decision.

Andrew McCutchen's batting average has been dropping lately, but he went 2-for-4 on Monday night. Clint says that he saw some very encouraging signs from his star center fielder, and they may be attributable to Andrew's work in the batting cages.

We also hear Clint's thoughts on Jose Tabata's play since he was recalled from his demotion earlier in the season. While he has been better, Clint says there is still room for improvement in certain areas of his game.

The atmosphere in the clubhouse has not changed during August when the Pirates have struggled to get wins. Clint says that the team's mindset, and attitude has not changed.
