Alleged Hotel Scammer Heading To Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Hotel bills can be expensive, but police claim a man from Michigan made it a point not to pay for his stay here in Pittsburgh.

According to police, Larry Raymond is a consummate coast to coast conman and he will be staying in jail for a little while longer.

Representatives from the seven hotels Raymond allegedly ripped off were waiting for the preliminary hearing of the man police claim went from place to place racking up huge hotel tabs and skipping the bill.

Raymond started his alleged stay for free scam when he checked into the Omni William Penn on Aug. 20. Before he bailed on the bill, his tab ran over $700.

Then, he racked up an $800 tab at the Double Tree before moving on to the Westin, Sheraton Station Square and the Marriot downtown.

Raymond, who police said has a criminal history filled with scams and theft stretching across the country, told hotel managers he lost his wallet and would pay up.

Raymond lived it up by frequenting gift and coffee shops and charging it all to his rooms.

Over a nine-day period, he racked up a grand total of over $4,100.

Raymond was finally arrested in the Cambria Suites downtown.

This morning, he waived all charges to trial.

Sources close to the investigation said they are reaching out to nearby cities to see if Raymond ripped of any places there.

For Raymond is being lodged in the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 dollars bond.
