WEST DEER (KDKA) — The parents of a five-week-old baby found dead in a Butler motel, were scheduled for a hearing Wednesday but concerns over their emotional state caused a delay.

Mother Nicole Dull still faces a preliminary hearing on charges she tried to hide the death of her baby.

Dull was reluctant to make a statement until KDKA Reporter Harold Hayes asked if she still loved her baby.

Hayes: “You loved you baby though?

Dull: “Yes.”

That statement was just about all Nicole Dull would say to reporters when she left court.

Dull’s hearing was postponed because her co-defendant James Victor is still undergoing evaluation at a behavior clinic to see whether he’s competent enough to go through the legal process.

Both parents face charges of abuse of a corpse, concealing the death of a child, and conspiracy in the death of five-week-old James Victor, Jr. who’s lifeless body was discovered in a Butler Twp. Motel.

Earlier, a suicide note was discovered at the Avalon Motel where the parents said they were ready to end their lives after discovering the baby died in their West Deer home.

The parents go on to say that they feared reporting the child’s death because of their own drug histories.

“It’s very difficult to go through something like this in jail and to be cut off from human interaction is brutal,” Defense Attorney Kevin Abramovitz says.

There is still no official report on the cause of the baby’s death.

The preliminary hearings have been rescheduled for next week.
