Ohio Township Man Loses Home To Fire

OHIO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a house in the 500-block of Mt. Nebo Road in Ohio Township Tuesday night.

The homeowner, 49-year-old Brian Griffith, was not at home at the time, but he lost two dogs in the fire.

The closest fire hydrant was a quarter of a mile away, so crews had to put down extra hose on Mt. Nebo Road.

A friend, Marty Koerner, was driving on Interstate 279 north, saw the fire and thought Griffith was burning a tree stump.

He called Griffith on his cell phone and learned he was in Oakland.

"So, I turned around by Perrysville and came back and just saw it was his house," he said.

The homeowner's father, Bill Griffith, said his son had a lot of unique items in the house.

"It's sad, but he'll make it back," he said.

Griffith lived there for about eight years.
