River Otter Attacks Angler In Venango County

FRANKLIN (KDKA) -- The Pennsylvania Game Commission is investigating after a fisherman was attacked by a river otter.

This happened at about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the water near Riverfront Park in Franklin, Venango County.

Wildlife Conservation Officer Ronda Bimber says a 27-year-old man was standing in the water near French Creek and the Allegheny River fishing when the river otter swam towards him and attacked him.

"The angler sustained five bites to the leg and one on his big toe, along with numerous scratches to his legs," Bimber said in a press release. "The incident ended when he was able to kick the otter in the head."

The officer is asking anyone with information to call her at 814-432-3187.
