Detectives Investigate Overnight Wilkinsburg Murder

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Police continue to search for the person who shot and killed a man late Tuesday night in Wilkinsburg.

Officers responded at the scene in the 1100-block of Franklin Avenue around 11 p.m. after a number of 911 calls reporting gunfire.

Police found the victim, 35-year-old Roosevelt Robinson, slumped over on a porch after sustaining a single gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives learned that the victim had been playing dominoes with friends on a second-floor, covered portico. During a break in play, authorities say the victim decided to urinate over the side railing.

A voice was heard below, yelling "Yo! Yo!" Then, several shots rang out and Robinson collapsed.

"During a break in the game, one of the participants urinated over the side of the porch into the area between two houses," said Lt. Andrew Schurman, of Allegheny County Police. "That area is commonly used by people to cut through between the two streets, and witnesses reported when a man was by the side, they heard yelling from down below followed immediately by some gunfire."

Investigators have paid particular attention to the potential angles of the fatal shot. They also say there's a possibility the gunman went somewhere quickly to change clothes.

There were a number of empty beer cans in a shopping cart alongside the house where the shooting happened this morning.

"We don't have a lot to go on at the moment," said Lt. Schurman. "Obviously, two of the big things we look for in any investigation is motive and opportunity, so the motive in this case might be as simple as someone felt they were being urinated on."

Police believe the gunman fired somewhere between 1107 and 1111 Franklin Avenue.

Anyone who saw or heard anything is asked to call the Allegheny County Homicide Unit at 412-473-1300.
