Catholic Cemetery Moves Tombstones For Landscaping Project
IRWIN (KDKA) -- Tombstones have been removed from graves for a landscaping project in a local cemetery, and that has one family member upset.
Mary Kubic says her uncle's grave marker was one of about 35 that were moved at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Irwin. She fears they'll never be placed back exactly where they belong.
The stones are now stacked up on a monument built last year.
Jerry Zufelt, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Greensburg, says great care was taken to mark exactly where the stones came from and that they will placed where they belong.
He says the landscaping is to make graves in that part of the cemetery more accessible.
As far as a timetable for when the stones will be replaced, he says it will depend on the weather.
