Police Investigating 2 Shadyside Home Invasions

SHADYSIDE (KDKA) - Police are investigating two Wednesday morning home invasions in Shadyside.

According to police, both incidents happened inside the same apartment complex in the 6100-block of Walnut Street around 4 a.m.

"This building behind us is a two-unit structure. There's two apartments in there. Both apartments are occupied," Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Bill Kunz said.

Police believe four to six armed assailants broke in and started making demands.

"About 2:30 this morning, both apartments were invaded by armed actors who robbed the residents," Sgt. Kunz said.

On the top floor. four young men were terrorized at gunpoint. Robbers demanded everything from cash to small electronics and cell phones.

One of the victims was allegedly struck in the head by one of the gunmen, but is expected to be okay.

They also broke into a newlyweds' apartment on the first floor. The two were just married in the last few weeks. Like the upstairs robbery, the couple lost valuables and the masked men even stole the woman's new wedding ring.

They took one of the victim's car keys and in an effort to keep it from being stolen, the owner moved it to a secure location

"We are gathering information and physical evidence that we can," Sgt. Kunz said.

KDKA's Brenda Waters Reports:

Police have not released many details, but the front door is secure. However, the metal grate over a window to the basement was broken away and the window itself appeared to be compromised.
