Officer Involved In New Castle Shooting

NEW CASTLE (KDKA)- Police in New Castle are investigating an officer involved in a shooting.

"It's kind of frightening to have something so close to home," one neighbor says. "You go by there, you can see the bullet holes in the fence."

It happened around midnight, in the Mahoningtown section of New Castle.

Police say they were called to a home after 43-year-old Ivy Lantheir ordered everyone out of his home and held another man at gunpoint.

Police say when they arrived, Lantheir was waving a gun at officers and fired several shots.

Police fire several shots in return and critically wound him.

"He says go ahead and shoot me and the cops were yelling put your gun down. [Lantheir] fired some shots in the air and that is when the cops got him," one witness says.

No officers were injured in the confrontation.

The shooting is under investigation.
