Police Say 2 Shootings In Garfield May Be Connected
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police continue to investigate following two shootings in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood.
The first shooting happened around 8 p.m. Sunday and claimed the life a 16-year-old boy. The second happened this morning and left a man wounded.
Police say the 16-year-old was an innocent victim.
"He always had a smile on his face," said Denise Cassell, the victim's mother. "He'd always make you smile, even if you're feeling bad."
Cassell says that was just one of the qualities she loved about her son, Ne'Ondre Harbour. The high school junior was in the 400-block of North Aiken Avenue right after 8 p.m. Sunday when gunfire erupted.
Harbor was hit in the torso and ran from the scene to his mother. She and EMS workers tried to revive him, but he died at the hospital.
"Honestly, I don't know what to think. I'm just trying to maintain," she said.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh police are searching for a suspect.
They did say that Harbour wasn't involved in the initial argument that led to the fatal shooting, and that a shooting on nearby Colombo Street in Garfield Monday morning is part of their investigation.
"It does appear to be related," said Commander Thomas Stangrecki, of Pittsburgh Police. "The victim in this morning's Colombo Street shooting resided at one of the households that was fighting last night prior to the homicide."
Now, Harbour's mother is left with only memories of the star athlete he was, and the wonderful son she says God needed more than her.
"He loves sports. He loved life," she said. "I can still see his smile right now."
