Bill Lets Some Firms Can Keep Portion Of Income Taxes

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA-AM) -- A bill is making its way through the Pennsylvania State Legislature that would allow employers to keep state income tax money they withhold from their new employees.

This decides that certain companies who meet their criteria will be able to pocket a portion of the employees withholding income tax.

A qualifying employer must provide its full-time employees with health insurance coverage and pay at least half of the premium. If it hires new worker, it would get to keep 95 percent.

Bill 3316 is awaiting the final signature from Gov. Tom Corbett's office but he has not decided whether he will sign it.

Today, KDKA host Mike Pintek spoke with Senator Jim Ferlo on the technicalities and his thoughts about this bill.

Senator Ferlo has represented the 38th Senatorial District since 2003; Allegheny, Westmoreland and Armstrong counties.
