Expect Delays As Weekend Construction Continues

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --- Get ready for another frustrating weekend on the parkway east.

The inbound Squirrel Hill tunnel will be off limits again from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Similar to last weekend, all traffic will have to exit at the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange and wind through Regent Square and Squirrel Hill.

Expect significant delays through traffic signals, business areas and neighborhoods all along the detoured route.

It may be your best bet to avoid the posted detour altogether.

Here are some alternatives suggested by PennDOT:

Take the turnpike in Monroeville to the I-79 interchange in Cranberry. Then, follow I-79 to the parkway north.

Another option is to use westbound I-70 to northbound I-79 and jump on the inbound parkway west.

Another area to watch out for this weekend is Greentree Road near Old Washington Pike.

Crews will be working between the Greentree Road Bridge that runs over Chartiers Creek and the railroad crossing next to Ducky's car wash.

Greentree Road itself will be blocked off from 8:00p.m. Friday night until 6:00a.m. Monday morning.

Allow plenty of extra time to deal with the congestion.
