GREENSBURG (KDKA) — The investigation continues into the case of a 3-month-old baby girl from Westmoreland County who was taken to a local hospital over the weekend with multiple broken bones.
“Broken arms, leg, a fractured skull and some internal injuries,” said Trooper Steve Limani, of State Police.
The little girl, born prematurely, just went home from the hospital in September. Three days ago, she was back in the hospital, and that’s when police were notified about the extent of her injuries.
“We’ve been working with the doctors at the emergency room at Excela, with the pediatrician that the family had for their child and also working with the doctors at Children’s Hospital,” said Trooper Limani.
The baby has been on oxygen since she was born. She and her parents live in a small trailer in Loyalhanna Township.
The 28-year-old father, who does not what to be identified, told KDKA-TV’s Ralph Iannotti how his daughter was injured.
“There was an oxygen tank that was under the canopy part of her bassinet. When I had found her, she was laying on… the basinet was on its right side,” he said. “She was responsive.”
The child’s mother is 20-years-old.
“We’re trying to determine whether this alleged accident, that took place at the house, had something to do with all these injuries or why was this accident that allegedly took place at the house possibly a few days earlier, why weren’t medical personnel called earlier, things of that nature,” said Trooper Limani. “Those are the types of things that we’re worried about with our investigation.”
