PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The KDKA-TV Turkey Fund was near and dear to the heart of our late friend and colleague, Yvonne Zanos.

This year, her daughter and granddaughters kicked off fundraising with a lemonade and bake sale in front of their school in Mount Lebanon.

They teamed up with classmates and the Lincoln School PTA and raised more than $500 in less than an hour.

Nikki Conaway recalled her mother’s words in the final months of her battle with ovarian cancer.

“She said the most important thing is to do what’s in your heart and make a difference and do it now and not to wait,” said Conaway. “And that’s something that I’m really trying to instill in my kids.”
