Former Steeler In Court On Charges Stemming From Bar Fight

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Former Steeler Chukky Okobi was held today on an assault charge stemming from a fight at a South Side nightclub last summer.

The fight started when Okobi says people in the club misunderstood when he was venting frustration with his girlfriend over a business issue.

They intervened and Okobi claims he struck back, trying to defend himself.

Four charges of simple assault were dropped, but the judge held a charge involving a security guard.

"My client was only trying to call the police, was only trying to involve the police to disperse this situation," the security guard's lawyer said. "In return he got punched in the face twice."

Okobi said on Facebook Thursday, he thinks the entire matter has been blown out of proportion.

"I didn't compare myself to anybody. All I was saying was that this whole thing, you guys are blowing this out of proportion," said Okobi. "And now that the judge has stated that I was jumped by six people, five people, however many, I was getting hit from every direction; you can understand how I was feeling.
