Arrest Made In Mount Oliver Child Abuse Case

MOUNT OLIVER (KDKA) –A man has been arrested for allegedly abusing a baby in Mount Oliver.

The boyfriend of the baby's mom, 32-year-old Jason Henry is charged with child physical abuse.

He's lived with the mom and child on Walter Street for the past three months after the mother met him on Craigslist, according to authorities.

The 2-year-old boy, identified as Maddax Kalafas, remains in Children's Hospital in critical condition, since the  incident  Thursday night.

Police say Kalafas' mother was at work when the incident happened.

Henry brought the boy to the Mount Oliver Police station around 9 p.m. Thursday and told police that Kalafas fell down some steps.

"A passerby saw Henry standing at the entrance to the police department, flagged down the Mount Oliver Police, telling them that there was a man at the police station with a dead baby," said Lt. Jeff Korczyk of the Allegheny County Police. "The police responded and Henry gave an account that the child had fallen down a pair of steps at their home."

Police say the boy's injuries were not conducive with just a simple fall.

Henry is also charged with child endangerment and aggravated assault.

The mother of the child has been interviewed, but has not been charged.
