PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A woman was hit by a car while sitting in a Rite Aid parking lot.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The woman, 53-year-old Cheryl Frank of Bethel Park, was sick or tired and ended up sitting down on the ground, while still in the parking lot, according to authorities.
“Our understanding is she didn’t feel well and sat down,” Lt. Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny County Police said.
But that proved to be a dangerous move.
“Early indications, she was seated or in the prone position when she was struck by the vehicle,” Schurman said.
The driver of the car, Robert Komosinski, said he didn’t see her from inside his large pickup truck.
Police believe Frank had fallen in the parking lot, hitting her head, rather than sitting when she was hit, because the driver ran over her legs.
Bridgeville police say Frank suffered a fractured skull, has some bleeding on the brain and a broken ankle.
“At this time, we have no reason to believe that alcohol or drugs were involved with the driver of the vehicle or speed in any way was a factor,” Schurman said.
No charges have been filed against the driver.
The accident is still under investigation.
