Local Communities Open Emergency Storm Shelters

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – In light of the bad weather expected with Hurricane Sandy, local communities are opening up emergency shelters to help people ride out the storm.

Below is a list of the municipalities with shelters:

Forest Hills
Warming Shelter
Forest Hills Volunteer Fire Department
2071 Ardmore Boulevard
For assistance with transportation: 412-475-7930

Shaler Township
Emergency Shelter
Shaler Area Middle School
1800 Mt. Royal Boulevard
Opens: Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.

Also, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services is activating a Public Inquiry Line as a result of Hurricane Sandy. As this event effects all of Allegheny County, individuals in need of emotional support, resources or information are encouraged to call: 412-482-3250.
