Over 150 Exhibits Featured At Annual Pet Expo

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Animals of all shapes and sizes will pack the David L. Lawrence Convention Center this weekend for the annual Pet Expo.

"This is going to be one of the largest expos Pittsburgh has ever seen, with nearly two full acres of pet-related activities," Pet Expo Manager Victor Kimmel said.

There will be more than 150 exhibits, including an exotic reptile display and the first ever Pet Olympics.

Plus, you'll have a chance to ask the vet and check out vendors like Invisible Fence.

One of the big highlights this year will be dock dogs.

Dogs from all different breeds will be competing using a giant swimming pool.

"It's a 40-foot dock with a 40-foot pool, so we'll have the dogs run as fast as they can down the dock and into the pool for distance," Paul Leabhart from Three Rivers Dock Dogs said.

Leabhart is the president of Three Rivers Dock Dogs and said the contest is thrilling. He's looking forward to seeing his 3-year-old chocolate lab, Mossy, compete.

"These dogs, when they are on the dock, they are running 30 miles per hour, flying for their toy object that they want so bad that toy and they'll spring into the air as fast as they can. Doesn't [matter] how far they go, they are just wanting to get that toy," Leabhart said.

People are welcome to bring their pets to the expo as well.

"A lady is bringing her macaw tonight. It's a world famous macaw that she is going to be walking around with. You can bring cats, dogs, as long as they have their shots and they are at least six months of age," Kimmel said.

The Pet Expo runs until 9 p.m. Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
