Trick-Or-Treater Struck By Car, In Hospital

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A boy is in the hospital after being hit by a car while trick-or-treating Saturday night.

Police say the boy is 4 or 5 years old and from Penn Hills. He was in costume, wearing dark colors, which might have made him difficult to see.

He was hit on Maple Avenue in Edgewood, near Edgewood Primary School, while trying to exit his grandmother's car. His two cousins were also in the car and were able to exit and cross the street uninjured.

A woman driving down the street hit the boy, who then fell and suffered a severe head injury.  His grandmother took him into a nearby home.

The woman did stop immediately and has been in talks with police. Police said they will perform a blood test on her as a precaution.

Allegheny Homicide was also brought in to assist in the investigation.

"An injury this severe could dictate one going either way, so as a result of that, as a precautionary measure, we call out homicide," Edgewood Police Chief Robert Payne said.

The boy was rushed to Children's Hospital and his condition is unknown, but authorities say he was unconscious.
