Mother, Son Escape Injury In Wilkinsburg Fire

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) – A mother and son were forced out of their home in Wilkinsburg after an early Monday morning fire.

According to officials at the scene, the fire started inside a townhome along Weinman Street around 4 a.m.

The son smelled the smoke and woke up his mother.

Both of them got out safely, but the family dog didn’t make it.

The fire started in the basement and spread up through the kitchen.

None of the other units in the complex were damaged and the cause is under investigation.
