Reward Offered After Pet Elk Is Killed

PERRYOPOLIS (KDKA) - A local family had five pet elk, now they have four. Police are looking for the person who shot and killed one of them.

They came home yesterday to find one shot in the heart near the roadway.

The person who shot the animal climbed the fence and tried to pull the elk out of the enclosed area, but the antlers got stuck in the fence and the person left.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Back in 2008, another elk was shot on the Liptak's farm, and no one was ever arrested for the shooting.

Liptak estimates the elk was worth about 10-thousand dollars, and says he kept them near the road so those passing by could enjoy them.

State Police were at the family's farm yesterday, and Liptak says he is offering a 25-hundred dollar reward. Anyone with information should contact the State Police in Belle Vernon.
