Teen Detained After Pipe Bomb Found In Wash. Co.

SPEERS (KDKA) - A teenager was detained following a pipe bomb scare in Washington County Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the Bomb Squad was called to the teen's home in the 100-block of River Avenue in Speers around noon.

Ryan Pfrogner, 18, has not been arrested in the incident. Instead, he was detained and questioned; but eventually, official say he will be charged with making explosives and possession of explosives on school property.

Pfrogner said he was only making the bombs out of curiosity and had no intent to harm anyone.

"There was absolutely no threats that he made to anyone about hurting a teacher, doing any damage or destruction to school property whatsoever," said Chief Michael Hresich, of Charleroi Police.

A pipe bomb was found in his car at Charleroi High School on Friday. Pfrogner said he forgot it was in the vehicle.

"He admitted to us that he did bring a bomb, that he made a pipe bomb in his car, up Friday during school hours. He said that he forgot that it was in his car," said Chief Hresich. "I had asked him if he had any more bombs anywhere else. He was being cooperative and he agreed to talk, and he said yes, that he had two at his house."

His mother did not know he was making pipe bombs in a workshop in the house.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Ferko said Pfrogner has been suspended indefinitely.
