Animal Friends Kicks Off 'Pets Are Priceless' Campaign

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - If you're thinking about adding a new pet to your family, now may be a good time.

Animal Friends just kicked off its "Pets Are Priceless" campaign.

Pets can make the holidays even more special for your family and if you're considering a new one consider adopting from a shelter.

"Adopting from a shelter is a life-saving option. These pets have done nothing wrong. They are unwanted simply because they have nowhere else to go," Jolene Miklas from Animal Friends said.

There are plenty of pets in need of good homes at Animal Friends on Camp Horne Road in Ohio Township. The shelter is filled to capacity with 250 pets on site.

There are also animals in foster homes.

Now, you can take home one of those dogs, cats, or rabbits without paying the $75 adoption fee.

"The Priceless Pets promotion applies to pets 2 and up and that's because we want to shine the light on those animals who are more frequently overlooked. We think the pets that are a little older have more experience, are great companions, usually a little bit more trained, more calm and ready to move in and be a family member," Miklas said.

One of the animals move-in ready is a 2-year-old pit bull mix named Andrew.

"He is one of the nicest dogs and one of the biggest personalities that we've seen at the shelter. He is just so easy going, laid back, very friendly, loves absolutely everybody he has ever met," Hannah Ketterman said.
